The Swimming Pool

The Bergen-Belsen Swimming Pool
Finding this was a real surprise. Although I've climbed the diving board steps at the Auschwitz pool, and seen pictures of the Theresienstadt and Mauthausen swimming pools, I'd never heard there was a pool at Belsen. It is marked on the official map of the memorial, but only in the map's key, and only as "Remains of camp buildings." Other "Remains of camp buildings" on the map also feature a description of what they actually are. I'd wager that this swimming pool is not included on the official tour.

The pool is within this section of Bergen-Belsen

This website has some photos of the pool from 2006 when there was a lot less foliage growing in and around it. The site also has photos of the pool's pump-housing, which admittedly I missed.

  1. The place seems nice. I hope that the property owner realizes that this is a nice place to be developed. There's a lot of pool repair scottsdale companies that could help him, if not in every area there's a lot.

  2. A German woman on television who was a nurse was asked amongst others by the overwhelmed British at ward end to help in attending to the victims. She was a keen swimmer and the first thing she did on arriving was to go to the state of the art swimming pool for the staff which was well known to exist. However when she got to the pool she found it not full of water but full of dead bodies. She went to the womens dressing room only to find dead bodies stacked up in it.
